Four jolly men

Four jolly men sat down to play,
And played all night till break of day.
They played for cash and not for fun,
With a separate score for every one.
When it came time to square accounts,
they all had made quite fair amounts.
Now, not one has lost and all have gained -
Tell me now, this can you explain?

  1. Were they a Jazz quartet?

  2. They played for cash, not for fun, piksea.

  3. They weren't playing a game but music...they're a band/quartet.

  4. And I thought this was going to be a hard one. Are you all musicians?

  5. "Are you all musicians?"
    Only in the minimalist sense.

  6. they were 4 kings.
