Between 2 and 3

Between 2 and 3 o'clock yesterday, I looked at the clock and mistook the minute hand for the hour hand, and the hour hand for the minute hand. Consequently, the time appeared to be 55 minutes earlier than it actually was. What was the correct time?

  2. Very close, but no cigar:
Five and a half minutes past 2 o'clock.

  3. Without the 30 seconds, it's not exactly 55 minutes. 2:05 - 1:10 is 55 minutes, but the hands aren't exactly in the right place. With every second, the minute had moves a little bit (if you have an accurate enough clock). Draw the picture and you'll see.

Of course, if you don't have that accurate a clock (say the minute hand doesn't move until the second piece moves to the top), then it doesn't matter what the seconds are.
