Lots of Possibilities

You're driving off-road in the middle of the desert when you get a flat tire. You take out the spare tire, and then remove the flat one. Unfortunately, you accidentally drop all four lug nuts (the nuts that hold the tire on) down a hole that is ten feet deep and only a few inches wide. You'll die of thirst if you can't find a way to put that spare tire on securely enough to drive out of the desert. Just using what is normally available in any car, can you come up with at least one way to solve this problem?

  1. There's probably a way to get the lug nuts back, but I would probably take one lug nut from each of the other three wheels and drive back with three lug nuts on each wheel. That should hold well enough.

    1. This an old riddle. Take one lug nut from each of the other three wheels and now you will have enough to secure the fourth wheel until you get back to purchase replacement lug nuts. (Jim May)
