Mark is Having a Party

Mark is in a bit of a quandary. He's having a party, but knowing his friends, he's having trouble deciding who he should invite.

If he invites John, he must invite Paul. If he invites Paul, he can't ask Mary. And of course, if he invites Mary, he can't ask Paul. He must invite John or Mary or both. It just wouldn't be a party without one or the other or both of them. But if he invites Mary, he must invite John.

Who can he invite to his party?

Can you answer both riddles?
  1. I can run, but cannot walk. Wherever I go, thought follows close behind. What am I?
  2. Give me food and I will live. Give me water and I will die. What am I?

These two were asked by Tara. I've 'asked' the second before, but since the first is new, I decided to go with it. Thanks, Tara!

Month to Month

Can you go from September to July using the clues?

S E P T E M B E R
_ _ _ 1 2 3 4 _ _ : Clue: Hygenic
_ _ 2 3 4 _ _ _ _ : Clue: Anthropod
_ _ _ 3 4 5 _ _ : Clue Numerous
J U L Y
U L are the same as the second and third letters in the word above.

I couldn't get it to line-up properly, so I used numbers to indicate which of the preceding words letters the word has in common.  For instance, in the second line 1 2 3 4 indicates the first, second, third and fourth letter in SEPTEMBER (i.e. SEPT) are the letters.  In the next line, the second, third and fourth letter from the previous word (hygenic) are the same.

95% of the kids who have the measles develop a rash. Only 8% of the kids with the flu develop a rash.
