Math time

Solve the following math problem without pencil and paper or a calculator: Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000. Now add 30. Add another 1000. Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10. What is the total?

Leave your answer or, if you want to post a question of your own, send me an e-mail. Look in the about section to find my e-mail address. If it's new, I'll post it soon.

Please don't leave spam or 'Awesome blog, come visit mine' messages. I'll delete them soon after.

5100

ReplyDeletewhat an idiot. it's 4100.

ReplyDeleteThat's a little harsh. You must be a Yankees fan.

ReplyDeleteI got 3100... You asked me to take 1000 first... so i started with -1000.

ReplyDeleteThat's a bit harsh, Andy.

ReplyDeleteThe question is designed to cause confusion by adding 1000s and 10s. 4 1000s is 4000 while 40 + 30 + 20 + 10 is 100.

If it makes you feel any beter, I got 5100 the first time I did this problem.

Karnov, I didn't say take away 1000, just take. That can be interpreted either way. Interesting thought, though.

I'd have to say Karnov is the only one who got it right.
