### 5 Chimes

A clock chimes 5 times in 4 seconds. How many times will it chime in 10 seconds?

1. 12 times, the last time being at 9.6 seconds.

2. 12 times, since a clock never chimes more than that!

3. Arguably, it could be as low as 10 (one chime per second, starting with a chime in the four-second count but not the ten-second count) or as high as 17 (slightly less than seven chimes per four seconds, with the four-second count starting just after a chime and ending just before a chime).

Assuming, of course, that the only constraint is that it chimes in perfect measure and that it's not a lateral thinking puzzle.

4. 11 times.... actually the time is taken for the intervals between the chimes.

5. If the clock starts on the first chime, then in 10 seconds it will chime 11 times.

But I love the thinking you put into this. The answer I had isn't necessarily the best one here.

6. The clock chimes 1 1/4 times per seconds therfore multiply accordinglly and you get 12.5 chimes but it cannot complete thethe final chime so there are 12 complete chimes in the alloted time.
