Letter Blocks

Molly has a set of four alphabet blocks. Each side of these blocks is printed with a different letter, making 24 in total. Molly notices that by rearranging the blocks, she can spell each of the following words:

BOXY, BUCK, CHAW, DIGS, EXAM, FLIT,
GIRL, JUMP, OGRE, OKAY, PAWN, ZEST

What letters are on each block?

  1. 1ST: A,B,F,J,R,S
    2nd: D,E,L,U,W,Y
    3rd: G,H,K,P,T,X
    4th: C,I,M,N,O,Z
Fun problem, took some time. I imagine there are several approaches. Always looking for the most efficient. I started with EXAM and by process of elimination came up with three letters on each block. changed technique a bit (still using process of elimination to get the rest)

  2. i also had to use the process of elimination and trial and error. I assigned each block a number and then went through the words trying to make every word not double a number.

  4. Instead of elimination, I use column of 4x12 and fill in all the words. This is almost same like playing sudoku but slightly different when you try it
