Take a fish bowl, partly filled with water. Place the bowl on a scale. If you place a fish into the bowl, the total weight of the bowl increases by exactly the amount as the weight of the fish.
Now, hold the fish by the tail and partially introduce it into the water, will the total weight be greater than before we introduced the fish?

yes, by the weight of the volume of water displaced by the fish (volume of the fish that is underwater times density of water). this is the same principle (discovered by Archimedes in ancient Greece) that makes someone easier to hold up when they're underwater (or makes anything float, for that matter).
