I'm posting one puzzle, riddle, math, or statistical problem a day. Try to answer each one and post your answers in the comments section. I'll post the answer the next day. Even if you have the same answer as someone else, feel free to put up your answer, too!

Dressed to the Nines
How do you six nines to equal exactly 100? You can use addition, division, decimals, etc... just no other digits.
Nope, no further rules are needed. I like seeing all the possibilities here. I was just going to post the answer: 99 + (99/99), but all of the possibilities you, karnov, and tamara have come up with are interesting to me.
Leave your answer or, if you want to post a question of your own, send me an e-mail. Look in the about section to find my e-mail address. If it's new, I'll post it soon.
Please don't leave spam or 'Awesome blog, come visit mine' messages. I'll delete them soon after.
99.9999999 = 100
ReplyDelete(For extremely large values of 99.9999999 only)
too many 9s... chop off 3 ^_^
ReplyDelete(999 - 99) / 9 = 100
ReplyDeleteThis time the rules were too wide open.
ReplyDelete99 + 99/99
99 + 9/9 + 9 - 9
99.9999 (need a bar over that last 9)
99 + 99^(9-9)
(99/.99)^(9/9)
Any restrictions?

ReplyDeleteDo you know "Four fours"? (that is one of many links.) It reminds me, a bit, of this problem. I use four fours with my freshmen each Fall.
ReplyDeleteyears late:
ReplyDelete9x9 + 9/9 + 9 + 9
